NDRL Radiation Chemistry Data Center

About this WWW Site

Content of this Site

This site is primarily designed to facilitate the dissemination of information from the RCDC, including chemical property data (such as reaction rate constants, and redox potentials) from our compilation efforts, historic bibliographic information from the RCDC bibliographic database, and well as a listing of recent papers in radiation chemistry and photochemistry, an on-line continuation of the Biweekly List of Papers in Radiation Chemistry and Photochemistry.

A secondary function of the site will be to encourage the involvement of the radiation chemical and photochemical communities in our bibliographic and compilation efforts. An e-mail anchor is provided on the RCDC home page. If you see an omission in our current awareness information, or a datum not included in our compilation work, we would like to know, so we can rectify the situation.

General Design Principles for this Site

The design of our web site was driven by the desire to enable our users to easily find their desired chemical property data, and to deliver that information over the Internet as quickly as possible. To that end, we have minimized the use of decorative graphics, opting for a more spartan, efficient approach. Thus, most of the pages in this web site conform to the basic world wide web standard (HTML 2.0); we have used tables to structure the information where appropriate, and forms for user input on the query pages. One of our few departures into advanced features (HTML 3.2) is our use of superscripts and subscripts, which greatly enhances the presentation of chemical nomenclature on the web. For browsing the compilations any browser will work -- in our experience, for simple tasks, the text-only browser Lynx is extremely efficient.

For the full functionality of the site to be used, we recommend Netscape Navigator 2.02 (or later), since it is capable of rendering superscripts and subscripts; alternatively Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 (or later) will also work well.
